2007 Past Events
2007 was another fun year for the BAC and saw our club go through some changes. Due to an increased number of snowbirds in our membership we've changed our social calendar to now meet 10 times a year, with no official monthly social during July/August. It doesn't stop the rest of us meeting up for a casual evening out, but it does save the Club operating expenses during the slower months.
Our most successful special event of the year was Guy Fawkes Bonfire Night on November 5th at The Dockside Inn. We had a terrific turnout and the kids really enjoyed it (as well as the adults!). We will do our best to make this an annual event every year.
This year, the annual Cricket match was played against our new official sponsor's team at The English Pub in Fort Myers Beach. What appeared to be a sure thing for the BAC, suddenly turned into an upset as the Pub went on to win 117-122! Quite worthy opponents. A great big CHEERS to Derrick and the staff at the pub for providing refreshments throughout the game and for their hospitality later at the pub. We'll beat you next year! Another good year for scorekeeper, Sandy Jackson, who every year comes a bit closer to actually understanding cricket!

2006 Past Events
What a fantastic Christmas Party! Members all arrived in their merry best, and danced the evening away to the sounds of the brilliant DJ! Once again the food was top notch and the raffle prizes were well worthy of the price of admission! Congratulations to Bob Freeman for winning the grand raffle prize of a $25 gift certificate to TOTAL WINE in Fort Myers. Good show, Bob!

November 2006 saw a return of some of our snowbirds and a delicious Thanksgiving spread served by Brewscos. Fred made sure to wow the members with a truly difficult geography quiz, which he warned us in October was coming, yet many failed to prepare for regardless! Geography not being their strongpoint, Marci & John nipped off to do the dishes, conveniently leaving their team to try and come up with the answers on their own. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________
October 2006 Spooky Spectacular Halloween party was a blast. Brewsco served "chicken cordon Boo" for dinner and the costumes were a real laugh. We were thrilled to host members of the FMHS marching band, and present them with $1000 from the June fundraiser. One of the girls earned herself £10 in spending money from our trivia contest. Sharp girls! Of course we let them in on the fabulous holiday sales they mustn't miss whilst in London. ANYONE can sightsee... but a good sale must not be missed!_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
July/August/September 2006 -- The summer months are often lean and laid back at the BAC due to snowbird schedules. Thanks to all who attended the easy breezy summer socials and enjoyed good food and good friends in a laid back atmosphere at the clubhouse. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________
June 2006 saw another incredible celebration of the official birthday of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This year the BAC organized a silent auction with the profits of the evening, $1000, donated to the Fort Myers High School Marching Band. The band have raised enough money through fundraising and community events to make the trip to London and march in the New Years Day parade. In fact, they are going to LEAD the parade. Well done kids! A giant thank you must go out to the sponsors who so generously donated items and gift certificates for this event. The big treat of the evening was Cape Coral City Manager, Terry Stewart, once again honouring the club with his gift for song. Thanks you Terry, and thanks to all who attended for making the evening a huge success for the kids.

May 2006 was a mellow month at the BAC as the snowbirds head back up North and the crowd tends to thin out a bit. The sock hop was more sock than hop as most of our members were really in the mood for a general knees up and bypassed the 50's theme dancing for the buffet!!! Well, at least the food and conversation were outstanding! Kudos to the cooking crew, including Sandra, Barb, Fiona and Linda and of course our intrepid President, Nick Gower for his Bag of Salad opening skills. Well done!

St George's Day was a jousting success in April 2006. Fred and Nick were our knights in shining armour, whilst Sandra and Marci were the fair maidens in the BAC Battle of British Wits. "The White Team" came out trumps in this epic battle, with Fred, the White Knight beating out Nick, the Red Knight, by a nose. It was thisclose, folks. Tune in next year for the exciting rematch!
The "Dragon Meat" (that's BBQ to you and me...) was catered by Sonny's BBQ, and was delicious. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
March 2006 was an exciting social as we celebrated St. Patrick's Day and returned to our clubhouse a year and a half after it was destroyed in Hurricane Charley.
The newly reconstructed club is quite comfortable, with plenty of room for dancing and activities. The corned beef and cabbage was delicious, and Marci's car has ALMOST stopped smelling of the cabbage that spilt in the back...
Fred presented us all with a quiz and kept us entertained with truly awful ---erm, very funny jokes all evening. Thanks Fred!
Sandy Jackson won the costume contest although we're all still a bit puzzled as to what she came as??? Either way, she looked terrific, as did all the others who came in costume.

February 2006, the BAC took a road trip to Naples to play a rematch against the English Pub in a friendly Cricket match. This event is now to be an annual outing and already people are excited about next years event. The English Pub in Naples couldn't be a better place to visit, with their fine food, great beer selection and friendly owners.
A fantastic spread was put on for the players and "cheerleaders", and everyone had a tremendous time. It was a very close game, with the BAC emerging triumphant 30-26. Later, after members received their t-shirts from pub owner, Joe, we all sat down for a delicious meal and to sing happy birthday to our club President, Nick Gower, who did not share his sticky-toffee pie with the rest of us...
Oh well, we recovered by being entertained by Danny and Rod, and holding a pub-wide raffle of great items, including a gift certificate donated by the pub! And as if that weren't enough, the pub generously donated $100 towards our coach fee, which was greatly appreciated.
If you are looking for a great night out, great British food, and lively entertainment, do make sure to visit the English Pub in Naples at 2408 Linwood Avenue, Naples. Visit their website at www.naplesenglishpub.com.

January 2006, was our last BAC monthly social at O'Sullivan's Pub. We had a great turnout for New New New Night as we welcomed in a whole new year of great fun. We had loads of new faces. Fred conducted his first social event of the season, and challenged the entire group to a quiz. We could have used a few more boffins in attendance! Good show Fred, for stumping the lot of us.

2005 PAST EVENTS
The December 2005 Christmas Social was held at the Cape Coral Shrine Club. Line by Line DJ presented the music and entertainment and we danced till told to go home! Members enjoyed a catered meal with a special treat for dessert; Christmas puddings made at the November social. Our president, Nick Gower, graciously doused them generously with brandy and nearly caused the fire brigade to be called!
Ray and Lesley donated the fabulous raffle grand prize on behalf of their new business, Pets-n-Homes. members and guests alike all had a smashing time. The 2006 BAC Board was announced. We welcome Fred & Sandra Vogelpohl to the position of Entertainment Chairs, and Marci Gower will now concentrate on the Newsletter and Website. All other board members will retain their positions for 1 more year.
June and Dick Bennett were sadly missed at this event and we all wish June a speedy recovery from injuries sustained in a serious fall. Get well June!

November 2005 was our Let's Talk Turkey feast. A full on Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings was served. A true feast.
All attendees participated in Stirring the Christmas puddings and making a traditional wish whilst doing so. Puddings were cooked the next day and will be served at the Christmas party in December.
Nominations were also held for the 2006 BAC Board of Directors. Results will be announced at the December event.
Thanks to all who paid their 2006 dues at the meeting. Reminder to all members that your dues are required by the end of the calendar year and can be brought to the Christmas party for your convenience.

The October 2005 social had to be postponed a week due to Hurricane Wilma but that didn't dampen our spirits. We had a fancy dress spooktacular time. Our theme was London Fog and members were encouraged to dress up as decidedly English characters. Congratulations to Fred and Carla Galloway who took 1st prize as Hyacinth and Richard Bucket (Bouquet!). Well done you two. You looked fab.
Hazel served an amazing Bannoffee pie that made many wish Halloween came more than just once a year!

In September 2005, Our Social theme was The Sun Never Sets on the British Empire. Our members teamed up to compete in our Empire Quiz to see just how knowledgeable (or how good their memories are!) about key events of the British Empire, and facts about the Commonwealth. Congratulations to Tom and Val Hall who had the highest score.
Tom and Val also were the big winners in the September raffle, winning a giant basket full of British goodies. Tom Kidd won the smaller raffle basket and a little birdie told us he was quite chuffed to find it contained clotted cream! Enjoy Tom!
Our dinner was outrageously delicious, with hazel cooking up a superb chicken curry with a vegetable samosa starter. And once again we were all treated to a scrumptious homemade dessert, lovely cream-filled profiteroles. Cheers Hazel!
The following evening the BAC represented the United Kingdom at International Night 2005, sponsored by the German American Club of Cape Coral. Thank you to all members who participated in the month of rehearsals for this event and who proudly marched in the procession of flags. They include: Tom and Val Hall, Marci and Nick Gower, June Bennett and her friend Tom who bravely stepped in at the last minute to sub for Dick Bennett. Heaps of thanks to those who came to cheer on the club and had to suffer through the unfortunate breakdown of the air conditioning system at the GAC. The lack of air conditioning necessitated a hasty retreat once the procession had ended. We all legged it to the a pub next door that has exceptional A/C and enjoyed the remainder of our evening.

In August 2005 the BAC held a Hunker Down Hurricane Party to commemorate the one year anniversary of Hurricane Charley and his friends, Frances, Jean and Ivan.
We threw caution to the wind at the pub and had ourselves a hurricane party! A delicious BBQ menu special was enjoyed and Hazel treated us her homemade Pavlova for dessert. YUMMY! Cheers Hazel! We welcomed 2 new members and enjoyed a fun evening of clay-charades with the winning team taking home goodies for their hurricane kits. Congratulations to Ray Asper, our raffle winner who took home the 2-In-One combo radio/cooler pack. Well done Ray!

In July 2005 we celebrated the hazy days of summer with a tropical tiki party at O'Sullivan's Pub. We had a delicious luau themed dinner special and refreshing tropical drinks. Hats off to all the members who were game enough to compete in the hula contest. Congratulations to Lesley "Hula Hips" Staples, our winner!

The June 2005 BAC social was a huge success. Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate the Queen's Birthday. A special thank you to Terry Stewart for entertaining us with his incredible singing voice, and for Brian Heaton-Jones for speaking about his latest book, In Search of Robyn Hode.
The BAC wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the vendors who generously donated gift certificates and merchandise for our door prize and raffle.
